26th Regiment South Carolina Volunteers
Company B of the 26th Regiment of South Carolina Volunteers was
raised in Chesterfield County, South Carolina. I included below the company
records of each of the companies since they all served together for most of the
war. You can follow the link for Company B where you will find a list of those

, 26th Regiment SC Infantry, company muster roll of
the organization named above for September/October 1862, shows station of
company Church Flats. Record of events: the company with the command
transported from Secessionsville on the 4th of September to
Rankowles. I suppose a distance to about 20 miles and marched from Rankowles
to Church Flats on the 5th of September. The company marched with
the rest of the command from Church Flats on the 22 day October to Rankowles
Station and went by way of railroad to Pocolatigo. I suppose to be a
distance of 55 miles and the company returned with the rest of the command
to Church Flats on the 24th of October.

Adams Run and returned October 17; ordered to Pocolaligo October 22 and

- Co. D, 26th Regiment SC Infantry stationed
September/October 1862 at Church Flats. The company marched with the rest of
the command from Secessionsville, SC to Church Flats on the 4th
day of September and on the 22nd day of October Marched to
railroad station at Rantoals C & SRR en-route from Pocotaligo where it
was reported that enemy had landed in force but had been driven back before
we arrived and this company with rest of the command returned to Church
Flats on the 23rd October.

Additional Information on
Company D
- Co. E, 26th Regiment SC Infantry stationed September/October
1862 at Church Flats. The company marched with the rest of the command from
Secessionsville SC to Church Flats on the 4th day of September
and on the 22 of October marched to Rantouls Station C&SRR en-route for
Pocataligo where it was reported the enemy had landed in force. Arrived at
the scene of conflict too late for an engagement - inconsequence of not
being furnished with transportation. On the eve of the 23 received orders to
return to camp which was accomplished during the night without the
occurrence of any incident worthy of note. Whole distance marched since last
muster about 50 miles.

March/April 1863 stationed at Church Flats.
July/August 1863 stationed at Mount Pleasant. The company was engaged
skirmishing with the enemy in front of Jackson, Mississippi from the 7th
to the 16th July inclusive in which three men were wounded.
Marched with the rest of the command from camp near Forrest Mississippi
August 4 and arrived at Charleston, SC August 27, 1863.

January/February 1864 stationed at Charleston Arsenal. In accordance with
Special Order 17 from District Headquarters the company was detached from
its Regiment and ordered to report to Major Chambliss for duty at Charleston
Arsenal January 24, 1864.

Company F
- Co. G, 26the Regiment South Carolina Infantry was stationed
September/October 1862 at Camp Hagood. Arrived at Camp Hagood 5th
September from Seccessionsville. Received orders 22 instant to go
immediately to Pocotalgi as the Yankees had attacked our forces at that
place. Got there 23rd, got orders to come back to Camp, got back
24th.
November/December 1862 stationed at Camp Hagood, Church Flats, SC.
January/February 1863 stationed at Church Flats, nothing of interest.
March/April 1863 stationed at Camp Gregg near Simon’s Bluff.
July/August 1863 stationed at Mt. Pleasant, SC. Fell back from Big Black,
Mississippi to Jackson 8 July. Occupied the trenches from 9th to
16th during the engagements. Fell back to Morton on the night of
the 16th. Was ordered to Savannah, Georgia from Camp near there
August 4. Left Forest? 5th August arrived in Savannah 13th.
Arrived at Mt. Pleasant (Charleston) August 29, 1863.

Petersburg, Virginia. Had an engagement with the enemy May 20 near
Petersburg, Virginia. Now in the trenches at Petersburg, Virginia. June 17,
1864.

- Co. H, 26th Regiment South Carolina Infantry was stationed
September/October 1862 at McClelansville, SC.
November/December 1862 stationed at McClelansville, SC. A detachment of
15 noncommissioned officers and privates are on picket duty at Allstons near
Bulls Bay.
January/February 1863 stationed at McClelansville, SC.
March/April 1863 stationed at Church Flats.
July/August 1863 stationed at Mount Pleasant, SC. Retreated from Big
Black, Mississippi the 6th and 7th of July to Jackson,
Mississippi. Ordered in the entrenchments on the 9th and held
them until the 16th then retreated to Morton, Mississippi and
ordered from Morton, Mississippi August 5 to Savannah, Georgia thence to

February 29 to August 31, 1864 stationed near Petersburg, Virginia. Left
Charleston, SC 15 April 1864 arrived at Wilmington, NC 20th,
arrived Weldon left Weldon, NC 23rd, arrived to Kinston, NC 24th,
remained at Kinston till 3 May 1864, took up line of march 3 May from
Kingston, NC to Newborn, NC, reached Newborn the 6th and drove in
the enemy’s pickets, remained in line of battle during the night of the 7th,
returned back to Kinston the 9th, average 72 miles per dy for six
days. Left Kinston the 16 May arrived at Petersburg, Virginia the night of
the 18th, left Petersburg the night of the 18th
marched 8 miles to Clay Farm in Chesterfield County, Virginia. 20 May
charged the enemy’s picket lines, carried them and held on position
strongly entrenched ourselves and remained there till 6th June
1864. From there to Petersburg June 17, threw up breast works and held the
enemy in check during the day and at night fell back to our present line and
entrenched holding the line till the explosion of Grants mine on the 30 July
when a portion of it was temporary held by the enemy during four hours when
they were driven back. We holding our position ever since up to the present

September/October 1862 at Church Flats. The company with the rest of the
command was transported from Secessionsville on the 4th of
