Chesterfield Light Artillery

The Chesterfield Light Artillery was first formed under Captain James C. Coit and was known as Coit=s Company; after Captain Coit=s promotion to Major, James I. Kelly was promoted to Captain and the company was afterward referred to as Kelly=s Company.

The company was >called into the service of the Confederate States in the Provisional Army, under the Provision of the Act of Congress passed February __, 1861, by James Jones, Colonel, 14th Regiment SCV from the 11th day of October, 1861 (date of this muster) for the term of for and during the war unless sooner discharged.=
