We have found that obituaries can be a tremendous asset in obtaining genealogical information.  The obituaries in this volume have been recorded from "The Pageland Progressive Journal" and its predecessors, "The Scout and "The News and Scout".

The bulk of these notices are derived from what was known as Old Store section of Chesterfield County, there are many notices from the surrounding areas, including Union County, NC; Lancaster County, Marlboro county, and Darlington County, SC.  Some of these were reprinted from other area newspapers. 

Only a few have been abstracted, the majority recorded as they were originally published, giving the reader a sense of another era of bygone times.
