Abstracts of various Cheraw
Newspapers on micro-film at the Chesterfield branch library. They
cover married and death notices, equity and sheriff sales.

Sample: Departed this lift on the 8th instant,
after a violent illness of two weeks, William M. McIver, son of Dr.
Jno K. McIver of Society Hill, in the 21st year of his age. He
several years ago embraced religion, and afterwards became a member of
the SC College, where he graduated in the winter of 1837. He was
a young man of fine character--promising talents, and pleasing
prospects in life. but death has blasted in the bud the fond
hopes of parents, friends, and the church of God. In his life brief as
it was he adorned the Christian profession, and in his death
exemplified the triumph of Christian faith. As death approached,
he spoke repeatedly of his submission to the will of Heaven, and dwelt
in animating terms upon the blessedness of the believers hope.
It proved an anchor to his soul in the tempest of dissolving
nature--it destroyed the terrors of death, and dissipated the awful
gloom of the grave! "Let me die the death of the righteous;
and let my last end be like his!" March 20, 1839.
