Chesterfield Co., SC Natives Serving in other StatesWhile researching my families genealogy and some our connecting families, I ran across quite a few Chesterfield County, SC natives who served in the Confederate Armies joining their companies in other states that succeeded from the Union. Many of our relatives relocated before the War "to the west" into the States of Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi. If you know of the Chesterfield County, SC native who served elsewhere, we would be glad to post their picture, service record, genealogy, etc., here. Thanks. Mississippi:Georgia:Austin Pigg was born December 19, 1831 in Chesterfield District, SC, son of Erasmus amd Eliza Pigg. While young, his family removed to Georgia. He remained in Georgia after his father's departure for Alabama. February 9, 1860 in Harris County, Georgia, Austin married Mary Ann Collins. March 1, 1862 he enlisted for service in Company H, 17th Georgia Infantry. He served the remainder of the war until surrendered by General Robert E. Lee at Appomatox on April 9, 1865. After the War, he returned to Georgia, where he and his wife parented eight daughters: Marietta Pigg, Jenny Pigg, Adaline Pigg, Katie Pigg, Pauline Pigg, Lila Pigg, Laura Julia Pigg and Emma Pigg. By 1900, he had removed to Bethleham, Chambers County, Alabama. North Carolina:Amos Pigg was born about 1835 in Chesterfield District, SC, son of Littleton Pigg and Mary Deese; He relocated to Lancaster County, SC before 1860. He enlisted August 17, 1861 in Co. B, 26th NC; he was killed at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Prior to the War he had married Janie Starnes and had three children: Doctor Tillman Pigg, Cornelia A. Pigg and Mobley Pigg. Risabel Pigg was born about 1836 in Chesterfield District, SC, son of Abner Pigg and Zelphia Johns. He relocated with his family to NC before 1859. By 1860, was living in Blount County, Alabama. Returned to NC where he enlisted in the Confederate Army March 7, 1862; wounded in April 1863, returned to duty; paroled May 22, 1865 in Salisbury, NC. He relocated to Davie County, NC by 1870. He had died by 1900. He and his wife, Mary Ann, were the parents of four children: Luther Pigg, John F. Pigg, Ann Pigg and Harriett Pigg. (James C. Pigg Note: found the following in NC Civil War Troops) George Courtney, born in Chesterfield District, SC, relocated to Union County, NC, enlisted March 15, 1862 at the age of 32, in Co. E, 48th NC. He died June 29, 1862 of disease in a Petersburg, Virginia hospital. Clement Goodwin, born in Chesterfield District, SC, relocated to Union County, NC; enlisted March 15, 1862, age 30 in Co. E, 48th NC. He was wounded in the leg at Fredericksburg, Virginia, which had to be amputated. He died as a result of the wound, January 13, 1863 in a Richmond, Virginia hospital. A. L. Hamilton, born in Chesterfield District, SC, enlisted at age 18 in Co. E, 48th NC. His name was "cancelled" around April 19, 1862. No further information. John E. Hancock, born in Chesterfield District, SC, relocated to Union County, NC; enlisted March 17, 1862, age 17, in Co. E, 48th NC; wounded October 14, 1863 at Bristoe Station, Virginia, returned to duty; hospitalized June 24, 1864 in Richmond, Virginia, returned to duty October 10, 1864; hospitalized November 4, 1864, died January 30, 1865 in a Richmond, Virginia hospital. Churchwell J. Horton, born in Cheraws District, SC, relocated to Union County, NC; enlisted March 15, 1862, age 38, as a private in Co. E, 48th NC; promoted to Sergeant; killed at or near Cold Harbor, Virginia on or about June 3, 1864. Archibald Jenkins, born in Chesterfield District, SC, relocated to Union County, NC; enlisted March 15, 1861 in Co. E, 48th NC; wounded in Fredericksburg, Virginia, December 13, 1862; returned to duty; promoted to Corporal; wounded at Hatcher’s Run, Virginia February 5, 1865; returned to duty; captured at Farmville, Virginia April 6, 1865; confined at Newport News, Virginia; released June 27, 1865. Bond E. Mangum, born in Chesterfield District, SC, relocated to Union County, NC; enlisted March 1862, age 30, in Co. E, 48th NC; may have served in Co. B, 26th NC; no other information. David Myers, born in Chesterfield District, SC, relocated to Union County, NC; enlisted March 15, 1862, age 26, in Co. E, 48th NC; died of disease at Orange Court House, Virginia on or about December 1, 1862. James W. Pigg, born in Chesterfield District, SC, relocated to Union County, NC; enlisted March 17, 1862, age 24, in Co. E, 48th NC; wounded at Fredericksburg, Virginia December 13, 1862, returned to duty; was reported present until April 1864; no other information. Wesley W. Pigg, born in Chesterfield District, SC, relocated to Union County, NC; enlisted March 17, 1862, age 21, ion Co. E, 48th NC; wounded at the Wilderness, Virginia May 5, 1864, was present October 1864, reported deserted to the enemy on or about March 11, 1865; released from prison after taking oath. Isaac Pitts, born in Chesterfield District, SC, relocated to Union County, NC; enlisted March 17, 1862, age 37, in Co. E, 48th NC; killed at or near King’s School House, Virginia June 25, 1862. Alfred D. Rollings, born in Chesterfield District, SC, relocated to Union County, NC; enlisted March 15, 1862, age 48, Co. E, 48th NC; reported in hospital September/October 1862 muster roll; died of disease at home in Union County, NC February 18, 1863. William Tadlock, born Chesterfield District, SC, relocated to Union County, NC; enlisted March 15, 1862, age 21, in Co. E, 48th NC; wounded at Fredericksburg, Virginia, returned to duty; present until April 1864; died of disease in a Richmond, Virginia hospital June 1, 1864. Henry Walters, born in Chesterfield District, SC, relocated to Union County, NC; enlisted March 15, 1862, age 19, in Co. E, 48th NC; died of disease in a Richmond, Virginia hospital September 9/10 1862. |
